Its chemical structure is similar to two other synthetic drugs, DA, and methamphetamine, which are known to cause brain damage. Overview Street Names Ecstasy is also known as Molly, Adam, Xtc, X, Hug, Go, Hug Drug, Beans, and Love Drug. What Is Ecstasy? Ecstasy  was originally developed as a diet aid but was also used experimentally during counseling because of its ability to remove an individuals inhibitions.   Sources Although some clandestine labs have been discovered operating inside the United States, most of the MDMA sold in the U.S. is manufactured in Canada and smuggled into the U.S. A small percentage of Ecstasy in the U.S. is manufactured in the Netherlands. Use Ecstasy comes in a tablet form that is often imprinted with graphic designs or commercial logos. It is usually swallowed as a pill but it can also be crushed and snorted, injected, or used in suppository form. Ecstasy is popular among middle-class adolescents and young adults. It is sold at bars, underground nightclubs, and at raves, which are all-night parties. Effects It is known for its energizing effect, as well as distortions in time and perception and enhanced enjoyment from physical experiences. The effect, per use, lasts from three to four hours. Its popularity grew in the late 1980s in the rave and club scenes and on college campuses because of its reputation for producing high energy and a trusting and opened  effect among those who take it. Hazards Ecstasy can produce some problems similar to those found among amphetamine and cocaine users. Immediate effects may include: AnxietyRestlessnessIrritabilitySadnessImpulsivenessAggressionPanic AttacksSleep DisturbancesLack of appetiteThirstReduced interest in and pleasure from sexSignificant reductions in mental abilities Health consequences of the drug may involve: Nausea??ChillsSweatingInvoluntary jaw clenching and teeth grindingMuscle cramping??Blurred visionMarked rise in body temperature (hyperthermia)Dehydration??High blood pressureHeart failure??Kidney failureCardiac arrhythmiasLoss of consciousnessSeizures These medical consequences can be serious and potentially life-threatening. The physical side effects that occur while taking it can last for weeks. Users often experience muscle tension, involuntary teeth-clenching, nausea, blurred vision, rapid eye movement, faintness, and chills or sweating. MDMA is very dangerous if you live with circulatory or heart disease because the drug increases heart rate and blood pressure. Addiction Almost 60 percent of people who use MDMA report withdrawal symptoms, including fatigue, loss of appetite, depressed feelings, and trouble concentrating. Some users may require  treatment for drug abuse. Common Additives According to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency, many Ecstasy tablets seized by law enforcement officials have been found to contain other drugs or a combination of drugs that can be harmful. MDMA is often mixed with other drugs such as: Ephedrine (a stimulant)Dextromethorphan (DXM, a cough suppressant that has PCP-like effects at high doses)Ketamine (an anesthetic used mostly by veterinarians that also has PCP-like effects)CaffeineCocaineMethamphetamine Combining or using drugs with MDMA, including marijuana and alcohol, is dangerous and will put users at higher physical risk.?? Neurotoxicity In a study using monkeys, exposure to Ecstasy for four days caused brain damage to serotonin nerve terminals that could still be seen up to seven years later, providing evidence that people who take Ecstasy may be risking permanent brain damage. Research has shown that MDMA can damage serotonin-containing neurons, which may lead to long-lasting mood changes as well as potentially affecting attention, memory, and other cognitive functions.?? Drugs Similar to Ecstasy The parent drug to Ecstasy is MDA, an amphetamine-like drug that has a similar chemical structure to MDMA. PMA (paramethoxyamphetamine, associated with fatalities in the U.S. and Australia) is also sometimes sold as MDMA. Mephedrone is also a new designer drug with similar effects.

Avatars Message About Imperialism, Corporations, and the...

James Cameron’s Avatar has been hailed by movie critics as one of the greatest and most pivotal films of all time. A critic for the Detroit Times stated in his critique of the: â€Å"I have seen the future of films, and it is Avatar (rottentomatoes.com).† Critics and audiences alike were entranced by the fast paced and intense science fiction film that was released during the Thanksgiving holiday in 2009. Many were marveled by the immense amount of detail, dedication, and creativity that it took to produce the movie: â€Å"Big money, big risk, pretty big reward. Thats been his consistent pattern, and its high time to give credit where credit is overdue: James Cameron delivers (rottentomatoes.com)†. Others were impressed by the technology used†¦show more content†¦The energy that Pandora’s natural environment gives off not only supports life but is also used a religious connection between the planet and its inhabitants, the Na’vi. Through the use of neural connectors found in their hair, the Na’vi are able to literally connect to plant and animal life. With this connection, the Na’vi are able to learn from nature which in turn shapes their harvesting and hunting practices. For the Na’vi culture, nature is not only a giver of shelter, food and wisdom but is also where they worship. The goddess Ewya is the patron goddess of the Na’vi culture and unlike other gods and goddesses her temple is a tree called the Tree of Souls. From the Tree of Souls, Ewya spreads the energy that is used to connect all the lives of the planet together and she protects the souls of those who have died. By connecting to the Tree of Souls the Na’vi people are able to communicate their hopes, fears, and desires to Ewya and send messages to loved ones that they have lost. In order to keep nature and human life in balance with each other, the Na’vi do not hunt in excess, they only take what they need, a nd they accept that death is a natural part of life. The Na’vi’s acceptance of death comes from their belief that all life returns to nature, to Ewya. William Wordsworth’s poem †Three years she grew† holds

A Construction of Test Bed for Spatially Integrated Online Surveying Free Essays

The gathering of public opinion and spatially associated information is an important and critical task for city and local government agents, in order to assess human resources, regional development planning, decision-making process and public facility management. Most local government decision-making processes require spatial distribution patterns of population and the associated information, especially in disaster management and emergency preparedness. Collaboration between residents and the local government is a key factor for effective administration process and regional development planning. We will write a custom essay sample on A Construction of Test Bed for Spatially Integrated Online Surveying or any similar topic only for you Order Now Current public surveying systems (either online or by regular mail or telephoning) merely collect information, and additionally skilled persons are required to convert these data into GIS (Geographical Information Systems), in order to visualize and analyze them for decision making processes. Here we are talking about implementing a Spatially Integrated Online Surveying System (SIOSS), which makes it possible to collect, integrate and analyze public survey data with spatially associated attribute information for the city and local government in a timely and cost effective way, under the collaborative GIS discipline. Study tools like ASP.NET, MS SQL Server and WebGIS will also be used to collect, store and share the spatially distributed objects and attributes in a time-efficient and cost effective way, (with little or no human intervention) for decision making processes. Introduction. With the increasing number of Earth observation satellite launching, and advances in communication and networking everyday, spatial information is more mobile and more widely used at various user levels (ranging from desktop expert users to mobile public users). In additional to offering educational resources in schools, students have the opportunity to think, explore and analyze the world they live in. On the other hand, technological improvement in computing and networking (such as Google Earth and Microsoft Virtual Earth) provides Internet home users with the opportunity to visualize the world either in a 2Dimensional or 3Dimensional view interactively. The growth of the Internet has been an explosive since inception, and this has lead to a great increase in the number of portable/mobile computing and communication devices such as notebook computers and mobile phones, in recent years. As manufacturers constantly improve on the features, and general capabilities of mobile devices, the Internet also continues to get bigger and to improve, even at a faster rate than these mobile devices. By utilizing all advances in Geographical Information Systems (GIS) for city and local government decision making processes, a Spatially Integrated Online Surveying System (SIOSS) can be implemented, which makes it possible to collect, integrate and analyze public information for the city and local government in a cost-effective and time efficient way, under the collaborative GIS discipline. Classical database management systems, especially the Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) can store, query and retrieve the information. However, RDBMSs are business-oriented applications, which manipulate large but simple data sets and are unable to manage geographical objects. Our identification with geography gives us a sense of place, so applying geographic concepts to public education and management is natural. Geography provides us with unique positions on the Earth’s surface, which can help in the study of resources. For example, the modeling of a landscape can give us valuable information about the ecosystem or historical setting of the landscape and help to visualize its future appearance, under various management strategies. These RDBMS applications are normally used in libraries, stores, reservation and so on. There have been considerable efforts to extend and adapt DBMS technology to spatial information systems, known as Spatial Database Management System or Geo-database, naming by ESRI. The following table compares the answers from common spatial information users between the classical public surveying DBMS (either online or offline) and the SIOSS system.
